Cowboys general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday that Smith (ankle) will be the team's starting left tackle in Week 1, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Smith missed the team's preseason finale due to an ankle injury, but the issue isn't expected to be severe and he should be good to go by Week 1. The rookie first-round pick is expected to operate as the starting left tackle until Tyron Smith (knee) returns to full strength.
