Eagles' Darren Sproles: Role solidified

Sproles solidified his standing as the Eagles' pass-catching back with the placement of Donnel Pumphrey (hamstring) on injured reserve Friday, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.

Sproles hadn't been seriously threatened by Pumphrey since the latter was selected in the fourth round of this year's NFL Draft. That said, Pumphrey won't be the running back to benefit if Sproles gets injured during the first half of the campaign. During Pumphrey's 4-to-6-week recovery, the Eagles will count on an RB trio of Sproles (33 offensive snaps in Week 1), LaGarrette Blount (23) and Wendell Smallwood (15). Meanwhile, undrafted rookie Corey Clement was active Sunday but didn't take the field.
