One of the more difficult parts of valuing players in Dynasty Fantasy Football is balancing the current year with the future year. Despite what happened last year, this is especially true for rookie wide receivers.
Jerry Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb were my favorite wide receiver prospects before the draft and they were both drafted in the first round. It's not hard to envision either as a top-12 Fantasy wide receiver within the next three years. At the same time, neither ranks within my top 36 in redraft PPR rankings. In a vacuum, current year production is both more predictable and more valuable in Fantasy Football. So how much does 2020 pull Jeudy and Lamb down?
Oddly enough you'll find both rookies in the same tier as teammates. Jeudy is a spot behind Courtland Sutton in Tier 4 while Lamb sits at the bottom of Tier 5, three spots below Michael Gallup. This highlights another issue. Not only are Jeudy and Lamb rookie receivers, they also landed on teams with very good young receivers ahead of them. The reason Jeudy is a tier ahead of Lamb is because he only needs to beat out Sutton to earn No. 1 targets. Lamb must contend with Gallup and Amari Cooper (who sits in Tier 3).
Even though there's not much expected of the rookies, there are still multiple directions their value could go this season. A.J. Brown and Terry McLaurin greatly improved their outlook last year while N'Keal Harry's value has fallen to pieces. With the shortened offseason I wouldn't expect Jeudy or Lamb to get off to a very fast start, but that still leaves open the possibility of a second half surge like we saw from Brown.
