More than 100 players have been put on the COVID IR since Week 14 kicked off with multiple teams going virtual for the week and waiting to see just how far the outbreak has spread.
The three teams that appear to be hit the hardest so far are the Browns, Rams, and Football Team. The Rams and Browns both placed star wide receivers on the COVID IR on Tuesday. We're now anticipating Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham will not be available in Week 15. For the Rams, the impact is pretty clear; all the targets Cooper Kupp, Van Jefferson, and Tyler Higbee can handle. For the Browns, it's more complicated.
Cleveland now has Landry and Austin Hooper on COVID IR. But David Njoku has returned from the list Harrison Bryant missed last week with an injury and Kareem Hunt is likely to miss Week 15 with an injury. That almost certainly means a heavy dose of Nick Chubb, and D'Ernest Johnson could be in play as well. But if you're looking for a receiver in the waiver wire, it likely means an increased role for Donovan Peoples-Jones, who may just be a No. 3 wide receiver.
Peoples-Jones has been remarkably efficient early in his career, averaging 19.8 yards per catch and 13.3 yards per target. But that's easier to do on three targets a game than when you're the No. 1 guy. Still, he's seen at least five targets in six games and he's averaged 11.7 PPR Fantasy points per game. If Landry, Hooper, and Njoku are all out, five targets is probably below his floor.
At the very least, he's a boom/bust no. 3 wide receiver, but for a lot of teams, that may be the best they can do on the waiver wire at receiver this week.
