Packers' Eddie Lacy: Ruled out for Thursday

The Packers have ruled Lacy (ankle) out for Thursday's game against the Bears, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Until Tuesday evening, there appeared to be a chance Lacy would play on a short week, but Ian Rapoport of NFL Network revealed that the running back could be sidelined for a number of games. Indeed, head coach Mike McCarthy hinted Wednesday it would be difficult for Lacy to suit up in Week 7, and shortly thereafter, the decision was made to shelf him for the third time in his career. Because James Starks (knee) will be out for at least four weeks, the Packers will have to rely upon recent pickup Knile Davis, Ty Montgomery, Randall Cobb and fullback Aaron Ripkowski out of the backfield. It remains to be seen if the team will also promote true running back Don Jackson from the practice squad.
