The Panthers signed Melvin to a one-year deal Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

After being released by the Jaguars on Thursday, Melvin -- who opted out of the 2020 NFL season -- will look to secure a key role in the Panthers' secondary. The 31-year-old cornerback last suited up in 2019, when he tallied a career-high 68 tackles through 13 games with Detroit.
