With Julian Edelman (knee) on IR and Danny Amendola (concussion/knee) out this week, Burkhead could be called upon to take some snaps on the line of scrimmage Sunday against the Saints, Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports.

To fill the void created by the absence of the team's top two slot wideouts, the Patriots figure to utilize a committee approach, with Phillip Dorsett a candidate to see more work at wideout while the team's tight ends and running backs may extra more looks in the passing game. Burkhead's versatility makes him an intriguing option on that front, so it's not hard to imagine him eclipsing his Week 1 snap count (10) Sunday. That said, until his role in the team's offense is solidified, he's a speculative fantasy option, having logged just three carries for 15 yards and one reception for eight yards in the Patriots' season opener.
