The Panthers released Melvin (groin) on Tuesday, Jonathan M. Alexander of The Charlotte Observer reports.
After opting out of the 2020-21 season, Melvin joined Carolina expecting to compete for a starting cornerback role. The 31-year-old injured his groin in the Panthers' preseason finale and is slated to miss time. In the end, strong cornerback play in training camp from A.J. Bouye and Keith Taylor led to Melvin getting released.
