Ravens' Javorius Allen: Primed for key role

Allen's teammate Danny Woodhead (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Thursday, ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley reports.

Allen will take over as the primary pass-catching back in addition to serving as an early-down complement to lead runner Terrance West. The new role could allow Allen to produce at a level similar to what was expected of Woodhead, though the Ravens don't figure to utilize Allen quite so much in the passing game. His Week 1 stat line -- 21 carries, zero targets -- was a clear anomaly resulting from Baltimore's dominance in a 20-0 blowout. Allen might actually see more targets than carries in certain matchups, though Sunday's game against the Browns is one that seems to favor his rushing workload. With only Jeremy Langford providing depth in the backfield, Allen may be just one Terrance West injury away from a heavy three-down role. However, the Ravens do expect to get Woodhead back around midseason.
