Top-10 Fantasy receiver on the move?
DeSean Jackson seemingly has played his last game in Philly. Where will the No. 10 Fantasy receiver land and how will it change Fantasy outlooks?
It sounds like DeSean Jackson, last year's No. 10 Fantasy receiver, has played his last game for the Eagles. Philly reportedly wants to trade him, though it's not clear why. He exploded in Chip Kelly's offense for career highs in catches (82) and receiving yards (1,332) while tying his career best with nine touchdown grabs.
Other teams don't want to take on a contract that will pay Jackson $10.5 million in 2014 and $9.75 million each of the next two years. So they're waiting for his release. Let's look at the teams that have been linked to Jackson, in order of need:
Panthers: Jerricho Cotchery and Tiquan Underwood would start if the season started today. That's how badly Carolina needs a big-time receiver. Jackson wouldn't lack for targets, but he'd see constant double coverage.
Jets: Jackson has a rapport with Michael Vick and would be an ideal complement to Eric Decker. His numbers would suffer, however, because Vick or Geno Smith would be a downgrade from Nick Foles. Plus the Jets like to ground-and-pound.
Raiders: He'd join Matt Schaub and James Jones in a completely revamped offense. With Denarius Moore and Rod Streater still around, there would be lots of mouths to feed. But Oakland will be trailing a lot and forced to air it out.
49ers: San Fran needs a downfield threat, and it's not clear Quinton Patton will be that guy. D-Jax would loosen coverage on Michael Crabtree, who thrives on short and intermediate routes. Jackson's arrival would crush Anquan Boldin's Fantasy relevance.
