Herzlich (neck) did not participate in Tuesday's practice. After only playing 15 defensive snaps in 14 games last season, Herzlich has been battling for a share of the snaps with Devon Kennard. If he cannot prove himself, though, he'll likely return to being a specialist.
Herzlich is learning the Giants' offense to help with depth at tight end, NJ.com's Dan Duggan reports. At 6-foot-4, 246 pounds, Herzlich is the rare NFL linebacker who possesses adequate size to contribute as a blocking tight end. He's mostly contributed on special teams since signing with the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2011, and while that doesn't figure to change anytime soon, the added versatility should at least help his odds of sticking on the final roster for another year or two. The Giants presumably hope second-round rookie Evan Engram will earn the starting job at tight end.
Herzlich re-signed with the Giants on Monday, the team's official site reports. Herzlich has served as a reserve linebacker and special teams contributor for the Giants since entering the league in 2011. Although his production has fallen off since his 52-tackle peak in 2014, his familiarity with the team should continue to make him valuable in New York.
Herzlich (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's tilt against the Cowboys. Herzlich will miss his second consecutive game due to the concussion, so Keenan Robinson figures to see additional playing time at outside linebacker.
Herzlich (concussion) is ruled out of Sunday's game against the Steelers. Herzlich was concussed in Week 12 against the Browns and wasn't at practice this week. In his steed, Keenan Robinson projects to see additional playing time.
