The Bears waived Barth on Monday, Adam Hoge of WGN Radio 720 AM Chicago reports. The move was fully expected after the Bears came to terms with Cairo Santos on a contract earlier Monday, one day after Barth missed what would have been a game-tying kick from 46 yards out with seconds remaining in a 27-24 loss to the Lions. Accuracy was an issue for Barth while he served as the Bears' kicker in 2016, and he took a step back in that regard this season, converting only 11 of 16 field-goal tries, including four misses from the 40-to-49-yard range. The Bears are banking on Santos, who has a career 84.8 percent success rate on field goals, being a more reliable source of scoring than Barth.
Barth is expected to be cut loose by the Bears in the coming days with the team signing fellow kicker Cairo Santos on Monday, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports. Barth missed a 46-yard field-goal attempt with three seconds remaining in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Lions. He's missed five of his 16 tries this season, after going 18-for-23 for the Bears in 2016.
Barth made one of two field-goal attempts while adding three extra points in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Lions. Barth had a chance to tie the game at 27 in the waning moments, but his wide kick never had a chance of finding the uprights. As long as he remains on the Bears' roster, he'll be a low-upside fantasy option, as he's posted six or fewer points in three of his last four contests.
Barth made all three of his field-goal attempts while converting an extra point in Sunday's 23-16 loss to the Packers. Barth had his first perfect outing since Week 6, leading to a season-high 10 points. Although he's been a weak fantasy option for most of the season, he's had three field-goal attempts in two straight games, and with the Bears improving a bit on offense, Barth could be emerging as a useful fantasy option.
Barth connected on two of three field-goal attempts in Sunday's 20-12 loss to the Saints. Barth missed a field goal that would have given the Bears a much better chance of winning, although he did post six points overall. He's missed four of his last 10 kicks, and it wouldn't surprise anyone if Chicago started holding kicker tryouts in the near future. Otherwise, with seven field goals in eight games, he continues to be a weak fantasy option.
