The non-contact leg injury Carrie sustained in practice Thursday is not believed to be serious, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports. This is good news for Carrie, as non-contract injuries have a reputation for potentially being serious or even season-ending. The Ohio product was able to walk off the field under his own power. The Browns' mandatory minicamp concluded Thursday and the team won't reconvene until until training camp in late July.
Carrie exited Thursday's practice with what appeared to be a non-contact leg injury, Tom Reed of The Athletic reports. Non-contact injuries are never good news, but Carrie was at least able to walk off the field under his own power. Thursday marks the final day of the Browns' mandatory minicamp and the team won't reconvene until training camp.
Carrie is expected to start at right cornerback against the Buccaneers on Sunday, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. Carrie will step into the starting lineup in place of E.J. Gaines (concussion) against the Buccaneers' league-leading passing offense. The 28-year-old has already had success accumulating tackles in a rotational role, and he could be an attractive IDP play as long as Gaines remains sidelined.
Carrie posted 12 tackles (seven solo) during Sunday's 45-42 overtime loss to Oakland. Carrie's 12 tackles only fell short of linebacker Joe Schobert, who set the pace with 14 total tackles. The 28-year-old is expected to see an increased workload going forward with Terrance Mitchell (wrist) on injured reserve.
Carrie agreed to terms Wednesday with the Browns on a four-year contract, Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network reports. Carrie started all 16 games for the Raiders last season, totaling 84 tackles and nine pass breakups while logging over 1,000 defensive snaps. Given the financial outlay, Carrie will likely occupy a starting role in a revamped Browns secondary that added Terrance Mitchell in free agency and acquired Damarious Randall via trade from the Packers. Carrie has also played safety in the past and could move over to the position if the Browns require more depth at that position.
