Dareus (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Broncos. The Bills will continue to use a heavy rotation in their defensive line, but there's a big drop-off between Dareus -- who has All-Pro skills but a history of injury and off-field issues -- and anyone below him on the depth chart.
Dareus (ankle) will miss practice for a third straight session Friday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports. Coach Sean McDermott is not ready to rule out Dareus just yet for Sunday's game against the Broncos, though it's not looking good at this point. Dareus has disappointed through two games in the new defense, continuing a career-long trend (skill hasn't been the problem, but injuries and off-the-field issues have). However, the Buffalo defense as a whole has been excellent, and he's been a key part of a very effective rotation on the defensive line being deployed by coordinator Leslie Frazier.
Dareus (ankle) did not participate in Thursday's practice, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports. Dareus is still dealing with a sprained ankle that forced him to leave Sunday's game against the Panthers, and while he was able to return to the contest, it appears as though his status for this weekend is now in doubt. Dareus will likely be a true game-time decision for Sunday's matchup with the Broncos.
Dareus sat out Wednesday's practice due to a sprained ankle, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports. The absence will put his availability into question for the Week 3 matchup with the Broncos. If Dareus is able to get back on the practice field within the next two days, the Bills will probably feel more optimistic about his chances of suiting up Sunday.
Dareus did not register a defensive stat in Buffalo's season-opening win over the Jets. Dareus, the team's stopper in the interior along with Kyle Williams, saw action on 59 percent of the defensive snaps. That's somewhat low for a player with All-Pro talent, though new defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier used a system that involved the constant rotating of his linemen Sunday, and says that's likely to continue when the team plays in potentially hot weather Week 2 in Carolina. The coaching staff was happy with Dareus' play -- the guy behind him, Roman Humber logged 13 tackles -- but his production and usage in the coming weeks merits watching for those that roster interior linemen.
