Johnson inked a contract with the 49ers on Tuesday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. The 28-year-old was let go by the Chiefs on May 20, and found his way back to the team that drafted him in the fourth round in 2014. Johnson only played one game with the Bills last season, but made 158 tackles and two interceptions over 63 games with San Francisco in the four years prior.
Johnson was released by the Cardinals on Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Johnson did not play a single game with Arizona after signing with the team on Nov. 27 and now has been released by the team. The fifth-year pro started 16 games with the 49ers in 2017 but has only appeared in one game with the Bills during the 2018 season. Johnson will look to earn a depth role elsewhere in the league if he goes unclaimed on waivers.
The Cardinals signed Johnson on Tuesday, Kyle Odegard of the Cardinals' official site reports. In search of reliable cornerbacks, the Cardinals added Johnson to their roster in hopes of solidifying the position. Johnson started 16 games for the 49ers in 2017 and finished with a team-high 76 tackles. He will likely back up David Amerson, though he could quickly see more playing time if Amerson struggles.
Johnson worked out for the Browns on Monday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM Radio reports. Johnson appears to have quickly drawn interest from the Browns after being released by Buffalo in late October. With Denzel Ward (hip), Damarious Randall (groin) and E.J. Gaines (concussion) all nursing injuries, Johnson serve as an appealing depth option for Cleveland's secondary.
Johnson (hip) was released from injured reserve Thursday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports. Johnson was placed on injured reserve prior to Week 1, and he will now be eligible to try his luck in free agency. The 26-year-old cornerback could very well get a shot with another team, as he was slated to start for Seattle entering this season
