Farley (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Friday, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports. Farley left last Thursday's game against the Patriots and was unable to practice this week. The specifics of the injury remain unclear, but with Clayton Geathers (neck) already ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jets, the Colts were in dire need of help at safety. Veteran Mike Mitchell was signed this week to bolster their depth, while tight end Mo Alie-Cox takes his place on the 53-man roster.
Farley had three tackles (two solo) and played 23 snaps on defense in Sunday's loss to the Bengals. Farley got playing time in dime packages and also played 22 snaps on special teams. He could get more playing time, as Indy's secondary figures to be in flux with many inexperienced players. However, his role will be limited in the short term.
Farley recorded 11 tackles (three solo) against the Broncos on Thursday. The lack of solo tackles is troubling, but it was a solid performance nonetheless. Farley logged 63 of 79 defensive plays, and he is now averaging nine tackles per game over his last three matchups, making for a solid stream in most formats.
Farley had nine total tackles and an interception in Sunday's 13-7 overtime loss at Buffalo. Farley has been a reliable source of tackles other than an odd game where he recorded no tackles in Week 8. He's since averaged 6.2 tackles per contest in his last five games.
