  • Bears' Justin Jones: Signing with Arizona

Jones is slated to sign a three-year, $30.1 million deal with the Cardinals on Wednesday, Peter Schrager of NFL Network reports. The contract will include $19.75 million in guaranteed money, per Schrager. Jones recorded career highs in solo tackles (29), sacks (4.5) and passes defensed (four) in 2023 with the Bears. The sixth-year pro also played more than 700 defensive snaps for the second straight season.

  • Bears' Jaylon Johnson: Getting four-year deal

Johnson (shoulder) and the Bears agreed to terms on a four-year, $76 million contract extension Thursday, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports. Johnson, whom Chicago extended the franchise tag to Tuesday, is instead sticking around on a multi-year contract that includes $43.8 million guaranteed at signing, per Schultz. A second-team All-Pro in 2023, Johnson is now being paid as one of the NFL's premier cornerbacks, a level which he played up to last season. His presence provides the Bears with a reliable pillar in the secondary, one which the rest of the defense can be built around, health provided. Across his four years in the league, Johnson -- who is presumably past the shoulder issue that sidelined him in Week 18 last season -- has managed to suit up for 13, 15, 11, and 14 regular-season games.

  • Bears' Jaylon Johnson: Gets franchise tag from Bears

Chicago is placing the franchise tag on Johnson (shoulder) on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The Bears are still reportedly optimistic about negotiating a long-term extension with Johnson, which both sides will have until mid-July to finalize. If no multi-year deal is reached, however, Johnson is now positioned to play out the 2024 campaign on a one-year, fully guaranteed contract of $19.8 million. Johnson racked up 36 tackles, 10 passes defended and four interceptions across 14 games in 2023, missing Chicago's regular-season finale due to a shoulder injury.

  • Bears' Jaylon Johnson: Working on new contract

Bears general manager Ryan Poles said the Bears are in the process of getting a contract extension done with Johnson (shoulder), Chris Emma of 670TheScore.com reports. Johnson is coming off a strong fourth season, having recorded 36 tackles, 10 passes defended and four interceptions during the 2023 campaign. He'll be one of the top potential free agents this offseason if the Bears are unable to re-sign him before free agency begins. According to Adam Jahns of The Athletic, Poles would like to avoid using the franchise tag on Johnson, but it's not clear if they will if they're unable to each an agreement on an extension.

  • Bears' Eddie Jackson: Departs from Chicago

Jackson was released by the Bears on Thursday. Jackson posted a career-low 37 total tackles in 2023, his seventh NFL season, all with Chicago. The 30-year-old made the Pro Bowl in 2018 and 2019 and was well on his way to another successful season in 2022 before suffering a season-ending foot injury Week 12. The veteran safety will now have an opportunity to seek a career resurgence elsewhere ahead of the 2024 season.

  • Bears' Gervon Dexter: Concludes first season in Chicago

Dexter finished the season playing 17 games, leading to 22 tackles and 2.5 sacks on 410 snaps. Dexter was a defensive tackle for the Bears, playing between 42 and 50 percent of the snaps in 11 games. With one or fewer tackles in 13 games, he had very low production as an IDP. With two years remaining on his rookie contract, Dexter will likely see a similar role, since he plays a position that typically results in players frequently rotating in and out.

  • Bears' Jaylon Jones: Set to hit free agency

Jones ended the season with 23 tackles in 17 games played. After playing 440 snaps as a rookie in 2022, Jones played just 142 snaps in 2023. • Bears' Elijah Hicks: Concludes second season in Chicago

Hicks finished the 2023 season playing in 17 games, resulting in 35 tackles. After playing 164 snaps as a rookie, Hicks saw his role expand to 467 snaps in his second year with the Bears. Between Weeks 3 and 9, he was a full-time player, recording between three and six tackles in each game. However, from Week 10 on, he didn't play more than two snaps in any game. Hicks has two years remaining on his contract, and he'll likely enter the 2024 season as a backup safety.

  • Bears' Terell Smith: Plays 365 snaps in rookie season

Smith played 12 games, resulting in 49 tackles and a forced fumble, during his first season with the Bears. He exited the team's last game of the season with a quad injury. After barely playing in the first two weeks of the season, Smith took on a full-time role at cornerback in Weeks 3 through 5, but he then became ill with mononucleosis and missed four games. Upon his return, his playing time was inconsistent. Signed through 2026, Smith will try to earn a starting role in his second season with Chicago.

  • Bears' Jack Sanborn: Finishes season with 66 tackles

Sanborn completed his second year with the Bears, playing in 17 games, resulting in 66 tackles, 1.0 sacks and an interception. After the Week 13 bye, Sanborn played between 12 and 20 percent of the snaps in each game, which represented his lowest snap totals of the season. The only time the linebacker played in a full-time role was in Weeks 9 and 10, when the Bears had injuries to starters. Since 2022, when Sanborn has called upon to start, he compiles high tackle totals, making him an excellent IDP in those cases. However, he'll likely remain a rotational player as he enters the last year of his contact with Chicago in 2024.

  • Bears' Zacch Pickens: Concludes rookie season

Pickens posted two tackles in the Bears' 17-9 loss to the Packers on Sunday. After being selected in the third round of the 2023 draft, Pickens was a rotational player who was on the field for 251 snaps in 17 games. On the season, the defensive tackle recorded 20 tackles and a forced fumble. If his snap share increases, he could emerge as a solid interior lineman in IDP leagues. Pickens is signed with the Bears through 2026.

  • Bears' Justin Jones: Set to hit free agency

Jones tallied two stops in the Bears' 17-9 loss to the Packers on Sunday. After playing the first four years of his career with the Chargers, Jones has had the best two years of his career with the Bears. He finished the season with 49 tackles, including a career-high 4.5 sacks. Jones is now an unrestricted free agent as he enters his age-27 season.

Playing on the fourth team in his seven-year career, Walker logged a career-high 688 snaps, which was 258 more snaps than the next-highest total. From a productivity standpoint, the veteran defensive end totaled 30 tackles, including 3.5 sacks. Going into his age-29 season, Walker has two years remaining on his contract with the Bears. If he retains his role in the defense, Walker will be a low-ceiling IDP option.

  • Bears' Eddie Jackson: Finishes worst season of career

Jackson collected six tackles in the Bears' 17-9 loss to the Packers on Sunday. Jackson posted the best stats of his career on a per-game basis in 2022, but he followed that up with the the least productive campaign of his seven-year career. For the second year in a row, he missed five games after never missing more than three games in any of his first five years. On the season, Jackson recorded 37 tackles and an interception. Going into the last year of his contract in his age-30 season, it's unlikely Jackson will be highly coveted in 2024 IDP drafts.

  • Bears' Montez Sweat: Finishes career year

Sweat recorded three tackles in the Bears' 17-9 loss to the Packers on Sunday. Sweat was sent from Washington to Chicago in a mid-season trade, and he was a dominant pass rusher the entire season. The fifth-year player posted career highs with 57 tackles and 12.5 sacks. He also added a pair of forced fumbles. After acquiring Sweat, the Bears signed him through 2027, and he should remain an excellent IDP in the emerging Chicago defense.

Gordon tallied three tackles in the Bears' 17-9 loss to the Packers on Sunday. In 14 games, the second-year corner posted 61 tackles, two interceptions and one sack. Gordon will enter the 2024 season in the third of a four-year contract.

  • Bears' Tyrique Stevenson: Strong rookie season

Stevenson tallied seven tackles in the Bears' 17-9 loss to the Packers on Sunday. Stevenson was selected in the second round of the 2023 draft and quickly rounded into a solid starter for the Bears. In 16 games, the cornerback tallied 86 tackles, four interceptions and a forced fumble. However, his IDP performance fell as the season progressed. Stevenson had recorded at least six tackles in five of his first eight games, but he didn't have another game with more than five tackles until Week 18. Regardless, he'll be considered a high-floor IDP in 2024 drafts. Stevenson will be going into the second year of his four-year rookie contract.

  • Bears' Jaylon Johnson: Heads toward free agency

After intercepting just one pass in his first three years in the league, Johnson had a career year with four picks. The veteran also recorded 36 tackles, a touchdown and a forced fumble in 2023. After his strong season, Johnson's contract has been fulfilled, and the cornerback is an unrestricted free agent.

  • Bears' Jaquan Brisker: Concludes second season in Chicago

Brisker posted eight tackles in the Bears' 17-9 loss to the Packers on Sunday. Brisker was a high-variance IDP, as his weekly tackle totals showed a pattern of highs and lows. In 15 games, the safety collected 105 tackles, one sack, one interception and a forced fumble. With two years remaining on his rookie contract, Brisker could see his production increase in 2024 if the Bears continue to build on the defensive improvements they made in the second half of the season.
