Harris re-signed with the Buccaneers on Friday on a one-year deal, Carmen Vitali of the team's official website reports. Harris was acquired off waivers by the Bucs last preseason before the team placed him on injured reserve prior to Week 1. However, Tampa subsequently waived him the following week and re-signed him after Week 7 in order to boost depth at cornerback. He ended up appearing in 10 games. Should he ultimately make the 53-man roster after training camp, he projects to again provide depth in the secondary.
Harris is not expected to be tendered a contract by the Buccaneers, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports. Harris is a restricted free agent but would become an unrestricted free agent March 13 if the team doesn't extend an offer. The 25-year-old made 10 tackles (nine solo) and three passes defended across 10 games last season.
Harris will start at cornerback in Week 13 against the Panthers, with Brent Grimes (knee), Carlton Davis (knee) and M.J. Stewart (foot) all inactive, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. Harris has seen action in 26 games with the Saints and Buccaneers over two-plus seasons. However, he's logged just one defensive snap this season for Tampa, with the rest of his work coming on special teams. He'll be expected to help contain a Cam Newton-led Panthers passing attack that gets Devin Funchess (back) back from a one-game absence Sunday.
Harris re-signed with the Buccaneers on Tuesday, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports. The Buccaneers' defense was hit hard by the injury bug during Sunday's win over the Browns. Harris isn't expected to be a major factor on the Tampa Bay defense but was brought in to supply added depth on the backend.
Harris (undisclosed) did not practice Wednesday, Greg Auman of The Athletic Tampa Bay reports. A string of absences is unlikely to bode well for Harris moving forward. As it currently stands, Harris finds himself clawing for a roster spot. Availability for the team's final two preseason games will be crucial for the 25-year-old out of Texas A&M.
