The Texans signed Adams to a reserve/future contract on Tuesday. Adams joined Houston's practice squad in early October after spending his first two years in the league with the Giants. A 2016 sixth-round pick, Adams has 24 receptions for 214 yards and a touchdown in 29 career games. He'll look to add depth to Houston's young tight end group in 2019.
Adams inked a practice squad deal with the Texans on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports. A sixth-round pick in 2016, Adams contributed a bit with the Giants over the past couple seasons as a backup tight end. There's a chance he could be promoted to the active roster down the road, but for now, he will await an opportunity on the practice squad.
Adams, last year's sixth-round pick, mostly saw work on special teams in 2017. With Evan Engram firmly entrenched as the team's starter, Adams will vie for a backup job again next preseason.
Adams (shoulder) is listed as inactive Sunday in Washington After landing on the Giants' injury report Thursday, Adams closed out the week with back-to-back limited sessions. The preceding wasn't exactly enough to forecast inactive status in Week 17, but the offense will nonetheless roll with Will Tye as the obvious No. 1 tight end. Due to the team's liberal use of TEs, though, Larry Donnell will likely earn some snaps as well Sunday.
Adams is nursing a shoulder injury and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Redskins. Adams was limited in practices the last two days with the injury, and could be at some risk of missing his third game of the season. The reserve tight end has recorded no more than three catches or 27 receiving yards in any of his 13 appearances on the season, so he won't profile as a trustworthy fantasy option in Week 17 even if he's given the green light to play.
