Kaufusi signed his exclusive rights tender from the Jets on Monday, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports. Kaufusi appeared in three games with the Jets last season, recording one defended pass across 45 defensive snaps. The 27-year-old will provide depth on the defensive line and could contribute on special teams if he's able to make the 53-man roster.
Kaufusi was promoted to the Jets' 53-man roster Saturday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Kaufusi spent four days on the active roster in October, and has otherwise been on the Jets' practice squad. The 27-year-old provides some depth on the defensive line, and takes the roster spot of Darron Lee following his four-game suspension.
Kaufusi was waived by the Jets on Friday. Kaufusi was promoted to the active roster earlier in the week, but New York has ultimately opted to beef up its linebacker depth ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Raiders instead. Assuming he clears waivers, the defensive end will likely revert back to the Jets' practice squad.
Kaufusi (ankle) was placed on the Ravens' injured reserve list on Tuesday, The Baltimore Sun reports. Kaufusi, the Ravens' third-round selection in May, suffered a broken ankle on Aug. 4 and had been considered lost for the season since. He likely enter the 2017 campaign as a candidate for a significant role in DC Dean Pees' 3-4 scheme.
Kaufusi will miss the entire 2016 season with a broken ankle, The Baltimore Sun reports. Baltimore's third round pick out of BYU, Kaufusi had a legitimate chance to earn a starting role during his first season in the league. In his absence, veteran Kapron Lewis-Moore and undrafted rookie Victor Ochi may perhaps have an easier time cracking the final 53-man roster. Furthermore, Brent Urban and Lawrence Guy now figure to be locked into starting roles at both defensive end positions.
