Longa (knee) did not participate in minicamp, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. It appears Longa is still working his way back from a torn ACL he suffered last August. The standout special-teamer will be about 11 months removed from the injury by the time training camp opens in late July.
The Lions placed Longa (knee) on injured reserve Monday. After tearing his ACL during Friday's preseason loss to the Giants, Longa was deemed out for the season. The third-year pro was a special teams asset, so his absence won't affect the Lions' defensive dynamic. Expect Detroit to bring in an outside linebacker in free agency.
Longa (knee) was spotted on crutches following Friday's preseason loss to the Giants, Justin Rogers of the Detroit News reports. Longa, who left Friday's contest during the third quarter, could be dealing with a potentially serious knee injury after all. If he's he forced to miss a significant amount of time, Jalen Reeves-Maybin and Darnell Sankey could see additional reps at outside linebacker behind Devon Kennard and Christian Jones.
Longa was signed by the Lions on Saturday, Tim Twentyman of of the team's official site reports. The Rutgers product will likely serve as a special teams asset as he takes time to learn the playbook before additional responsibilities.
