Lunsford was released by the Seahawks on Tuesday, Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio KJR reports. Lunsford was brought in by the Seahawks to compete with Blair Walsh for the kicking gig. It appears as if the veteran Walsh did enough to separate himself from the 23-year-old, leaving Lunsford to search for another training camp kicking battle elsewhere.
Lunsford signed a contract with the Seahawks on Wednesday. Lunsford signed a future contract with the Bucs in January but was let go once Tampa Bay agreed to a deal with veteran Nick Folk in March. Now in Seattle, the Liberty product will compete with Blair Walsh for what will likely be one roster spot.
Lunsford has been released by the Buccaneers, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports. His release comes after the Bucs recently signed veteran Nick Folk to compete with the much-maligned Roberto Aguayo, thus making Lunsford expendable as the team's third kicker.
Lunsford was signed by the Bucs to a futures contract Wednesday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. The undrafted rookie out of Liberty inked a deal with San Francisco this past summer, appearing in three preseason games. Lunsford kicked just one extra point during his brief Niners tenure but boasted a monster leg in his college days, having made an NCAA-record 12 field goals of 50 or more yards. With 2016 second-round pick Roberto Aguayo having endured his share of struggles during his rookie campaign, an intriguing battle for the Bucs' place-kicking job could well unfold throughout the offseason and next summer.
