Doyle caught all eight of his targets for 79 yards in Sunday's 16-13 overtime loss to Arizona. Doyle was quarterback Jacoby Brissett's favorite target early on, catching four of his seven first-half completions while nobody else got more than one. While Brissett got more options involved after halftime, Doyle still finished well ahead of the pack with T.Y. Hilton coming a distant second in both receptions (four) and receiving yards (49). The tight end's pass-catching ability makes him a reliable option regardless of who starts under center.
Doyle had two receptions for 41 yards on three targets in Sunday's loss to the Rams. On a day when the Colts were awful at quarterback and completed just 11 passes, Doyle at least showed a spark with two big receptions. He'll remain a primary target in the passing game, but may not produce many results until Andrew Luck returns from a shoulder injury.
Doyle had one reception for nine yards on his only target in Saturday's preseason win over Pittsburgh. Doyle hasn't done much in the preseason, but he doesn't need to prove anything as Indy's top tight end. He's healthy and ready for Week 1, but could see a decline in targets if Andrew Luck remains sidelined with a shoulder injury and Scott Tolzien is the starter for Week 1.
Doyle hauled in all three of his targets for 12 yards in Saturday's preseason Week 2 loss at Dallas. Doyle was responsible for each of quarterback Scott Tolzien's first three completions. Like the rest of the Colts offense, Doyle's productivity this season will be tied to Andrew Luck's (shoulder) health. With Dwayne Allen now in New England, Doyle will serve as the top tight end in Indy regardless of who lines up under center once the games start to count.
Doyle is the clear-cut No. 1 tight end in Indianapolis, Colts.com reports. Doyle's status as the top dog was confirmed without question when the Colts traded Dwayne Allen to the Patriots shortly after signing Doyle to a sizable three-year contract. The Indy offense has always made heavy use of tight ends with Andrew Luck under center, and the team is now left with just Erik Swoope behind Doyle on the depth chart. More help is likely coming through free agency and/or the draft, but everything is in place for Doyle to play a huge role in the Colts' 2017 passing game.
