Jones (knee) was waived by the 49ers on Wednesday. Jones spent his past season with the 49ers on injured reserve after tearing his ACL in the preseason finale. A five-year veteran, Jones will likely have to prove he's fully healed from the knee injury before he lands a spot on another team.
Jones was revealed to be recovering from a torn ACL, Steffany Means of WBRC FOX6 News reports. "My knee is coming along real good. I think I have another month or two but I think I will be back to fully recovered soon," the safety said. Jones hurt his knee during the 49ers' final preseason game in 2017, but the full extent of his injury wasn't previously known. The Arkansas State product seems unlikely to be fully available until training camp starts back up in late July or early August.
Jones signed a two-year contract with the 49ers on Friday. Jones is among the best gunners in the league and led the Texans with 11 special teams tackles in 2016, despite playing in just nine games. Given the barren nature of the 49ers' secondary, he could conceivably carve out a role on defense this upcoming season.
Jones (illness) was a full participant in practice Wednesday. The safety missed Sunday's game against Jacksonville due to illness, but all signs point to him being ready to play in Week 16 against Cincinnati.
Jones (illness) will not play in Sunday's game against Jacksonville. Jones missed Friday's practice session due to illness and he'll get a few extra days to recover. He'll likely be ready to roll next week, when the Texans take on Cincinnati.
