Carter (leg) isn't listed on Wednesday's injury report, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports. Carter suffered a leg injury in the preseason opener but will be ready to go for Week 1. The 26-year-old is poised to work as a depth tight end for Miami.
Carter suffered a leg injury in the 20-13 loss against the Bears on Saturday, David Furones of the Sun Sentinel reports. While blocking, Carter had the action on the run roll into his left leg, causing him leave the game. The good news is that the 25-year-old was seen walking under his own power on the sideline. The fourth-year tight end spent last year in Cincinnati, where he played in 15 games, amassing five catches for 53 yards. If Carter is forced to miss significant time with the injury, his chances of making the roster are likely limited.
Carter (undisclosed) was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday. Carter has been away from the team since landing on the COVID list over the weekend, but he can retake the field for Miami after clearing the health and safety protocols. The 25-year-old caught five passes for 53 yards in 15 games for the Bengals in 2020 and inked a three-year, $7.8 million deal with the Dolphins this offseason.
Carter signed a three-year deal with the Dolphins on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Carter spent the first four seasons of his career in Cincinnati, though he missed all of 2018 with an arm injury. Though he's appeared in at least 15 games in his three other campaigns, Carter has commanded only 11 career targets. Instead, his primary value comes as a blocker, and he'll now work behind the likes of Mike Gesicki, Durham Smythe and Adam Shaheen in Miami.
Carter hauled in one of two targets for a 21-yard gain in the Bengals' Week 17 loss to the Ravens. The tight end suited up in 15 of the Bengals' 16 games, but he drew a mere seven targets on his 220 offensive snaps for the season, illustrating how much the Bengals view him as a blocker. His role is unlikely to change no matter what other additions or subtractions the Bengals make at the position in 2021.
