  • Etling signed a reserve/future contract with the Falcons on Monday, Will McFadden of the team's official site reports. Etling had resided on the Falcons' practice squad since Oct. 29 and solidified himself with the organization Monday. The 25-year-old has yet to see regular season NFL action, and completed 60 percent of his passes his senior year for LSU in 2017.

  • Etling signed with the Falcons' practice squad Tuesday, Will McFadden of the team's official site reports. Etling initially resided on the Falcons' practice squad before being promoted in the wake of Matt Ryan's (ankle) injury. Ryan's expected to be ready for the team's next game, so Etling was waived and returned to the practice squad.

  • Etling was waived by the Falcons on Monday. The 25-year-old was promoted from the practice squad Saturday and served as Matt Schaub's backup with Matt Ryan (ankle) sidelined, but the team will return to two quarterbacks heading into their bye week. Assuming he clears waivers, Etling figures to return to Atlanta's practice squad.

  • Etling is being promoted from the Faclons' practice squad to their 53-man active roster, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM Radio reports. The Falcons claimed Etling off waivers during training camp, but he was ultimately unable to make it through final cuts. He subsequently landed on their practice squad. He will now be third on the depth chart at quarterback behind Matt Ryan (ankle) and Matt Schaub. Ryan's questionable designation is no doubt the reason they have opted to promote Etling.

  • Etling was signed to Atlanta's practice squad Sunday, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports. Etling resembled a late-season Josh Allen in his two exhibition appearances for Atlanta, rushing for 115 yards on 17 attempts against the Redskins and Jaguars. He was shaky in completing just two of six pass attempts for 19 yards during his Falcons debut against Washington, but managed to rebound the subsequent week with 15 completions on 25 attempts, 174 passing yards and one touchdown at Jacksonville. He brings value as a practice squad player, providing the Falcons defense with the weekly opportunity to prepare against a quarterback who has a propensity to tuck it and run.
