The 29-year-old reverted to New York's practice squad after playing 13 snaps on special teams during Week 3 against San Francisco. Holton appeared in 16 games for the Steelers last year and caught three of 15 targets for 21 yards.

The Giants promoted Holton to the active roster Saturday, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports. With Sterling Shepard (toe) on injured reserve, Holton will be brought up from the practice squad to add depth. He played in 16 games with the Steelers last year and caught three of 15 targets for 21 yards. He'll likely operate in a reserve role with the Giants but could contribute on special teams.
