Foster (knee) underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair a torn ACL, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports. Foster suffered ligament damage to his knee in a freak accident at OTAs last week. He's likely looking at a 9-to-10-month timeline for his recovery. The newly signed Jon Bostic has taken Foster's place at inside linebacker alongside Mason Foster at recent practices.
Washington placed Foster (knee) on injured reserve Wednesday, Tarik El-Bashir of The Athletic reports. The transaction was a foregone conclusion after Les Carpenter of The Washington Post reported Tuesday that Foster suffered a torn ACL during a freak fall at Monday's practice. The fact Washington is placing Foster on IR right away rather than the Physically Unable to Perform list doesn't bode well for the young linebacker's chances of eventually making his way back on the field in 2019. Washington signed Jon Bostic on Wednesday to take Foster's place on the roster, but Shaun Dion Hamilton, Josh Harvey-Clemons and Cole Holcomb could also make a case for snaps at inside linebacker alongside Mason Foster. It's expected that Foster will undergo surgery on his left knee once the swelling subsides.
Foster is believed to have suffered a torn ACL in addition to further damage to his left knee during Monday's OTAs, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Foster was carted off the field with an air cast on the knee after sustaining the injury on one of the first plays of 11-on-11 work. Per JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington, the additional damage may be an issue with an artery in his leg. Assuming the diagnosis is confirmed, the 25-year-old should miss the 2019 season.
Foster (undisclosed) was carted off the field during Monday's OTAs Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post reports. The injury happened on one of the first plays of 11-on-11 work at Washington's OTAs. According to Les Carpenter of The Washington Post, Foster's left knee was placed in an air cast before he was placed on the cart. There will be more information after Washington finishes practice for the day, but this appears to be a potentially significant injury for the third-year linebacker.
The NFL has reinstated Foster without any suspension, John Keim of ESPN.com reports. Foster is immediately eligible to participate in all team activities but will need to pay a fine of two game checks. The NFL released a statement Friday afternoon saying evidence in its investigation didn't support a previous finding that Foster had violated the league's personal conduct policy during a November incident in the Tampa area. The 2017 first-round pick was released by the 49ers shortly after his Nov. 24 arrest for a charge of domestic battery. Washington claimed the linebacker off waivers two days later and he then spent the rest of 2018 on the commissioner's exempt list.
