  • Thorson signed a reserve/futures contract with the Cowboys on Tuesday. Thorson spent the season on Dallas' practice squad. He chose to return there for 2020 to seek another shot at his NFL dream.

  • Thorson was signed to the Cowboys' practice squad Sunday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. The fifth-round pick didn't impress with the Eagles this preseason and got cut as a result, but the Dallas scouting department saw enough potential in him to bring him aboard. Thorson remains a developmental prospect, and even if injuries hit the Cowboys hard at QB, it seems unlikely the rookie would be pressed into regular-season duty.

  • Thorson was waived by the Eagles on Saturday. Thorson was drafted by the Eagles this year in the fifth round and was competing for a backup quarterback role. Philadelphia opted to keep three quarterbacks, but went with Josh McCown and Nate Sudfield behind Carson Wentz. If Thorson clears waivers, he could get signed to a practice squad.

  • Thorson was passed over for reps with the second-team offense Monday by Josh McCown, Eliot Shorr-Parks of Sports Radio 94 WIP Philadelphia reports. Thorson was the lone healthy QB behind starter Carson Wentz on the roster after Cody Kessler suffered a concussion in Thursday's preseason game against the Jaguars, but McCown ended his retirement over the weekend to sign with the team. Thorson was unlikely to begin the season as the top backup since he's a rookie fifth-round pick, but he should still see his fair share of chances in the final two preseason contests as the Eagles see what the young QB has to offer.

  • Thorson completed 16 of 26 passes for 175 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the Eagles' 24-10 preseason win over the Jaguars on Thursday. He also lost three yards on three rushes and fumbled twice, although both were recovered by the offense. As his final line implies, Thorson had some trouble holding onto the ball, but he ultimately only gave it away once. The rookie was pressed into action sooner than expected when Cody Kessler was forced from the contest with a head injury, leaving Thorson with extended duty. The Northwestern product seemed to adapt well to the circumstances, however, hitting Greg Ward, Jr. for a 38-yard touchdown and leading another three scoring drives on the night. With the Eagles potentially down Kessler in next week's preseason game versus the Ravens and already confirmed to be without Nate Sudfeld (wrist), Thorson could see significant time again versus Baltimore.
