Siemian agreed to terms Wednesaday with the Jets on a one-year contract, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports. The 2015 seventh-round pick will give the Jets a backup quarterback with 24 NFL starts under his belt. Per Darryl Slater of The Newark Star-Ledger
Siemian will visits with the Jets on Wednesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. It was reported Monday that the Vikings were working to re-sign Siemian, but he apparently still wants to check out his options in free agency. The 27-year-old did not see the field as Kirk Cousins' backup in 2018.
The Vikings are working to re-sign Siemian, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Head coach Mike Zimmer has noted his desire to have a veteran quarterback as the main backup to Kirk Cousins. Last season, Siemian made $1.9 million as the No. 2 signal-caller and did not log a snap all season. The Vikings also have Kyle Sloter on the roster, but his inexperience could be reason for concern.
Siemian showed good command of the Vikings offense during spring workouts. Siemian's ability to pick up the offense is notable on two fronts, with the first being that the Vikings offense is a completely different system than the one Siemian played within in Denver. Secondly, Siemian doesn't appear to be limited in any way following offseason surgery to repair a rotator cuff in his left, non-throwing shoulder. Unless second-year signal-caller Kyle Sloter takes massive strides in training camp this summer, Siemian appears set to open the 2018 campaign as Minnesota's top backup to Kirk Cousins.
Siemian (shoulder) is expected to be available via trade, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Denver appears ready to move on from their 2015 seventh-round pick as they look to find a signal caller with higher upside to lead its offense. In fact, management is expected to "aggressively" address the quarterback position in free agency and the draft. It isn't clear how much demand Siemian could demand via trade or what teams might be interested, but he has a connection with an assistant coach on the quarterback-needy Jets in run-game coordinator and offensive line coach Rick Dennison, who was the Broncos offensive coordinator in 2016 when Siemian threw for his career-best 3,401 yards and 18 touchdowns in 14 games. With Brock Osweiler set to be an unrestricted free agent, the Broncos otherwise have Paxton Lynch and Chad Kelly (wrist) under contract for 2018.
