  • Chargers' Ty Long: Relieved of kicking duties

After the Chargers signed Chase McLaughlin, Long will no longer serve as the team's kicker, Gavino Borquez of USA Today reports. Long was a decent placeholder for the first four games with Michael Badgley (groin) out, connecting on seven of nine field-goal attempts and all nine extra points. Long's a punter, though, so McLaughlin was brought in to take over as the placekicker for the duration of Badgley's injury.

Long rebounded after a tough Week 2, filling in once again for Michael Badgley (groin) to the tune of a perfect afternoon. Considering Badgley's status appears to be week by week in nature, it's imperative Long's fantasy managers keep track of the former's practice status throughout the week.

  • Chargers' Ty Long: Kicking for Chargers

Long will handle the kicking duties with Michael Badgley (groin) inactive. Long struggled last week, converting only one of three field-goal attempts but making his lone extra-point try. He is a utility man for the Chargers' special teams, as Long works as the punter as well.

  • Chargers' Ty Long: Two misses in loss

Long made just one of his three field-goal attempts and his lone extra-point attempt in Sunday's 13-10 loss to the Lions. The Chargers' multi-season kicking nightmares resurfaced Sunday, as Long's second-half misses from 39 and 41 yards ultimately cost the team the win. Starting kicker Michael Badgley is expected to be healthy for Week 3 following two straight absences due to a groin injury, so it's likely Long will slide back to his role as punter for the foreseeable future.

Long (groin) will handle the kicking duties Sunday against the Lions with Michael Badgley (groin) inactive. As anticipated, Long will serve as the Chargers' punter and kicker in Week 2 with Badgley out for a second straight contest. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Chargers anticipate that Badgley will be ready to kick Week 3 versus the Texans, so Long isn't expected to perform double duty on special teams beyond Sunday's contest.

  • Chargers' Ty Long: Slated to kick again Week 2

Long is expected to serve as the Chargers' placekicker Sunday against the Lions with Michael Badgley (groin) likely to be inactive for the contest, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Long got the job done in the 30-24 overtime win over the Colts in the season opener, knocking down all three of his extra-point attempts in addition to nailing a 40-yard field goal. Rapoport relays that Badgley is expected to be ready to play against the Texas in Week 3, so Long isn't expected to see any further kicking opportunities beyond Sunday.

  • Chargers' Ty Long: Posts perfect afternoon

Long converted all three of his extra-point attempts and his lone field-goal attempt in the 30-24 overtime victory Sunday over the Colts. Shockingly, the former CFL two-way specialist dramatically outplayed his someday Hall of Fame counterpart, Adam Vinatieri, posting a perfect kicking performance in relief of Michael Badgley (groin). As a result, Long, the Chargers' nominal punter, became the first specialist since 2011 to have a punt, field goal and extra point in the same game. The Chargers certainly weren't nervous to use Long, either, which should give fantasy owners some confidence if Badgley's injury continues to be a nuisance.

  • Chargers' Ty Long: Locked in as Week 1 kicker

Long will serve as the Chargers' kicker Sunday against the Colts with Michael Badgley (groin) not available to play, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Badgley is officially listed as doubtful on the Chargers' injury report, but he'll be included among Los Angeles' inactives when the team releases its list approximately 90 minutes before the 4:05 p.m. EDT kickoff. With Badgley idle, Long, who secured the punting job following the preseason, will be pulling double duty in the kicking game in his NFL debut. During his college days at UAB, the 26-year-old handled kicking duties from 2011 through 2014, converting 97.3 percent of his extra-point tries and 76.6 percent of his field-goal attempts.

Long is expected to fill in as the kicker Sunday with Michael Badgley (groin) downgraded to doubtful. Long was an excellent kicker in the CFL, converting 88 percent of his attempts over the course of two seasons with the BC Lions. That being said, it's difficult to project how much the Chargers coaching staff will trust their dual punter/kicker considering the emergency situation.

  • Chargers' Ty Long: Could fill in as kicker

Long would handle the kicking and punting duties in the event Michael Badgley (groin) were to miss Sunday's game against the Colts, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports. It's unclear how severe Badgley's injury is, but considering the issue cropped up just two days before the season opener, it's entirely possible the rookie punter might be forced into double duty. Long went 82-for-93 on field-goal attempts in two seasons with the BC Lions in the CFL and was named the Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2018 for his abilities as a dual punter and kicker.
