  • Andrew Franks: Gives way to Parkey
    By RotoWire Staff

Franks was let go by the Dolphins after Cody Parkey was claimed on waivers by the team, Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald reports. The 24-year-old made 16 of 21 field goal attempts for the Dolphins last season, en route to logging 89 points in 16 games. He'll now find himself as part of a pool of free agent kickers looking for jobs after this weekend's roster churn.

  • Franks now has competition for the Dolphins' kicking job, with Cody Parkey having been claimed on waivers by the team, Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald reports. Unsettled kicker situations are best avoided at this time of the year, but the mere fact that Franks now faces a challenge from an experienced NFL kicker such as Parkey suggests that his roster spot is hardly secure.

  • Franks converted his only field-goal attempt during Thursday's preseason game against the Eagles. The Dolphins were able to get into the end zone five times Thursday, which contributed to Franks' low usage. However, the third-year kicker was perfect on all of his PATs and looked plenty ready for the regular season after sending a 56-yarder through the uprights just before halftime.

  • Franks finished the 2016 season 16-21 on his field goal attempts. That comes out to a 76.2% success rate which is well below the norm in today's NFL. Franks has a big leg but only attempted two FG over 50-yards this season which could lead you to wonder if the coaching staff just doesn't trust him. Franks was 41-42 on extra point attempts but that won't be enough to solidify his job for next season.

  • Franks didn't attempt a field goal but converted two extra points in the Dolphins' season finale Sunday against the Patriots. Franks wasn't needed for a field goal for the third time in the past seven games, which comes as little surprise considering Miami has attempted the fewest in the league all season. Coupled with his dismal 71-percent accuracy (29th in the NFL), Franks doesn't appear to be a trustworthy fantasy option for Sunday's postseason matchup with the Steelers.
