The Jaguars activated Cottrell off the practice squad COVID-19 list Thursday. Cottrell is one of 11 players cleared to return from the COVID-19 list for Jacksonville on Thursday. He'll be eligible to immediately resume participating in practice squad activities.
The Jaguars placed Cottrell on the practice squad COVID-19 list Saturday. Cottrell is one of 12 players on the Jaguars' practice squad to get placed on this list. The running back either contracted the virus or came into close contact with an infected person. He'll need to clear the NFL's COVID-19 protocols before returning to team activities.
Cottrell has reverted to the Jaguars' practice squad. Cottrell was activated for the team's season opener against the Colts, and he played mainly on special teams but logged one offensive snap. The undrafted free agent out of Georgia Tech will look to develop further on the Jaguars' practice roster.
Cottrell played one offensive snap during Sunday's 27-20 win over the Colts. The rookie UDFA was active for the season opener and played 19 snaps on special teams. Cottrell is unlikely to be a factor in Jacksonville's offense under the current circumstances, but he may continue to suit up while Ryquell Armstead (reserve/COVID-19 list) and Devine Ozigbo (hamstring) are sidelined.
Cottrell was promoted to the Jaguars' active roster Saturday, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports. Cottrell was signed to the team as an undrafted free agent after the 2020 draft and has bounced between the roster and practice squad since. Given the rash of injuries in Jacksonville's backfield, Cottrell could suit up in Week 1 against Indianapolis.
