  • Thompson (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. Thompson will miss the first game of his rookie campaign. Jalen Thompson and Budda Baker have slotted in as the team's starting safeties, but Deionte has served in a respectable role with at least a 38-percent snap share in five straight games. Chris Banjo figures to see an uptick in snaps in Thompson's place.

  • Thompson (knee) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. Thompson did not have a designation prior to his limited session Friday, meaning the safety may have suffered a late-week injury. Generally this is not good news for a player's availability, so it will be worth keeping an eye on Thompson's status as Sunday approaches.

  • Thompson is fully recovered from the wrist injury that kept him from participating in the NFL Combine in March, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports. Thompson was a fifth-round selection by the Cardinals in last weekend's draft, and his stock may have dropped a bit due to the wrist injury. However, the 22-year-old has no lingering issues and should participate fully in Arizona's upcoming rookie minicamp. Thompson has the skill set and pedigree -- he started 17 games at safety for Alabama -- of a potential starter, but he seems likely to start out in a special teams role.

  • The Cardinals selected Thompson in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, 139th overall. You could make the case for Thompson at a sooner selection than this, as the Alabama product had a wrist injury screw up what could have otherwise been a fruitful pre-draft process. Thompson is a thin safety at 6-foot-1, 194 pounds and that may have led to additional durability concerns, but his skill set is promising, and it's generally a good process to target leading contributors on dominant defenses. The Cardinals will hope he can step up and start over D.J. Swearinger in the next couple years, though special teams appears to be where Thompson is headed for now.
