Griffin is under contract with the Saints through 2020, Josh Katzenstein of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Undrafted back in 2016, the 24-year-old tight end spent most of the past three seasons on the New Orleans practice squad, making just three regular-season appearances in the process. He was called up to the 53-man roster for the playoffs, ultimately handling a key role in the NFC Championship Game after Ben Watson (illness) was ruled out and Josh Hill suffered a concussion. Griffin had a short touchdown catch in the loss, potentially setting the stage to compete for a larger role in 2019. Hill and Dan Arnold both remain under contract, while the 38-year-old Watson can become an unrestricted free agent if he doesn't retire. It's possible the Saints make a significant investment at tight end in the offseason as opposed to continuing their reliance on a committee of mediocre players to fill snaps at the position.
Griffin signed a contract with the Saints on Saturday, Brett Martel of the Associated Press reports. Griffin spent training camp with the Saints and now joins the 53-man roster for a potential playoff run. The 24-year-old had one reception for four yards in three games with New Orleans in 2017 and is unlikely to factor into the passing game.
Griffin (foot) is participating in training camp, Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Griffin is looking good from a physical standpoint after finishing the season on injured reserve with a foot injury. The second-year Air Force product is competing for a depth role at tight end.
Griffin was placed on injured reserve by the Saints on Wednesday, Herbie Teope of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Griffin has been battling the foot injury since mid-December but was clear of an injury designation for Week 17. The 23-year-old joined the Saints prior to Week 13, and totaled one reception for four yards in three games with the team.
Griffin (foot) won't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports. Griffin was a limited participant in practice this week but the team apparently saw enough to not utilize the questionable tag. The 23-year-old should serve as the Saints' No. 2 tight end Sunday with Michael Hoomanawanui ruled out with a concussion.
