Griffin recorded a team-high 14 tackles in Sunday night's loss to the Seahawks. Griffin's 14 tackles nearly doubled his season total, as the veteran now boasts 30 stops through nine games with the Panthers this season.
Griffin (back) signed a one-year contract with the Panthers on Tuesday. Griffin, a ten year veteran, signed with the Vikings this offseason but was cut by the team before the start of the season after being placed on injured reserve due to a back injury. The Panthers have not commented on the health status of Griffin but look for updates to come later in the week. Once healthy, Griffin could potentially compete with Kurt Coleman for the starting strong safety position.
Griffin (back) reached an injury settlement with the Vikings on Wednesday, Anthony DiMoro of the Huffington Post reports. The agreement removes Griffin from the Vikings' injured reserve list. When healthy, he'll be free to sign with another organization.
Griffin got the start at safety opposite Harrison Smith in Sunday's preseason game, but left in the second quarter due to a back injury and was later seen leaving the locker room on crutches, ESPN 1500 am Twin Cities reports. Griffin had one tackle before departing. He got the start in the third preseason game over Andrew Sendejo, but head coach Mike Zimmer indicated the competition isn't decided. However, Griffin's injury could make Sendejo the starter if it's an issue for the start of the regular season.
The Vikings have signed Griffin, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports. Per the report, the addition of Griffin could well send Andrew Sendejo to a backup role. The 31-year-old Griffin is coming off back-to-back IDP-relevant campaigns with the Titans, including 2015, when he recorded 101 tackles in 15 games.
