Barwin is getting released by the Giants on Tuesday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. He's expressed a desire to play in 2019 and could get an opportunity as a veteran backup with another club.

Barwin (knee) was a full participant in Friday's practice and will play in Sunday's game against the Texans. Barwin's practiced reps escalated throughout the week, as he was limited Thursday and then ultimately able to go through a full session Friday. He will now enter the weekend without an injury designation, so expect the linebacker to be a full go in Houston.

    By RotoWire Staff

Barwin (knee) was a non-participant in Wednesday's practice. Barwin has been nursing a knee injury since preseason and doesn't appear nearing a recovery. With Olivier Vernon (ankle) also questionable to suit up against the Texans on Sunday, the Giants could enter Week 3 missing two options at the outside linebacker position.

  • Barwin (knee) took part in individual drills Monday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports. Barwin, limited for the last three weeks due to lingering knee soreness, was reportedly spotted wearing a compression sleeve on his right knee. The pass-rush specialist could see an opportunity for increased snaps with Olivier Vernon (ankle) sidelined, but he'll need to fully participate in practice first. Barwin figures to serve a rotational role opposite Vernon throughout the regular season.
