  • Jets' Josh Malone: Signs with active roster

Malone signed with the Jets' active roster Tuesday, Ethan Greenberg of the team's official site reports. Malone has been bouncing between the practice squad and the active roster, but he'll be kept up for now with Breshad Perriman (ankle), Jamison Crowder (hamstring) and Chris Hogan (ribs) all battling injuries. If all three miss Sunday's game versus the Colts, Malone will likely start at wide receiver. Through two games, he's caught four of six targets for 16 yards.

  • Josh Malone: Shifts to practice roster

Malone reverted to the Jets' practice squad Monday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Malone caught four of six targets for 16 yards and rushed for 12 yards on a lone carry in Sunday's loss to the 49ers. Considering the Jets entered the game without Jamison Crowder (hamstring) and Denzel Mims (hamstring), and they lost Breshad Perriman (ankle) and Chris Hogan (ribs), Malone was one of two wide receivers remaining when the game ended. Expect Malone to be back on the active roster for Week 3 versus the Colts.

  • Jets' Josh Malone: Chance to climb depth chart

Malone caught four of six targets for 16 yards and added a 12-yard run in Sunday's 31-13 loss to the 49ers. New York came into the game without Jamison Crowder (hamstring) and Denzel Mims (hamstring), and the wide receiver corps got even thinner with Breshad Perriman (ankle) and Chris Hogan (ribs) getting injured during the contest. All of the injuries in front of Malone propelled him into a larger role, and he could start in Week 3 against the Colts if the Jets don't get some of their injured receivers back.

  • Jets' Josh Malone: Moving up to active roster

Malone was elevated to the Jets' active roster Saturday. Malone will immediately step into a Jets pass-catching system, which could see him register a handful of offensive snaps as the No. 5 wideout behind Braxton Berrios. The likes of Breshad Perriman, Jamison Crowder and Chris Hogan all stand in Malone's way for prominent fantasy opportunities.

  • Josh Malone: Let go by Cincinnati

The Bengals waived Malone on Sunday, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports. Malone had initially survived roster cuts but, when the team was awarded Pharoh Cooper off waivers, became expendable. His cut doesn't come as much of a surprise, considering he was already a surprise to make the initial roster and faced an uphill battle for snaps. He'll hope to get claimed by another team, but if he doesn't, could find himself back on the Bengals' practice squad.

  • Bengals' Josh Malone: Makes initial 53-man roster

Malone squeaked in ahead of Cody Core to win the Bengals' final wide receiver spot with their roster cuts on Saturday, Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com reports. This was a little surprising because Core was considered a very helpful player on special teams. But coach Zac Taylor opted for Malone because he offers more speed and length at wide receiver.

  • Bengals' Josh Malone: Hauls in two receptions

Malone caught two of his four targets for 26 yards in the team's preseason finale against the Colts on Thursday. Malone made his biggest catch of the day partly through the second quarter, when he hauled in a 21-yard pass from Jake Dolegala. He entered training camp on the roster bubble and that likely remains the case. Though he hauled in a touchdown in the team's third preseason game, Malone hasn't otherwise been all that noteworthy. Even if he manages to make the team, he wouldn't be a priority in the passing game and would slot in behind the likes of Tyler Boyd, John Ross (hamstring), Tyler Eifert, and eventually A.J. Green (ankle).

  • Bengals' Josh Malone: Hauls in one pass

Malone hauled in one of his three targets for 13 yards in the Bengals' second preseason contest against the Redskins. Malone played into the second half but was targeted only three times. His only contribution came on the first drive when he caught a short pass over the middle and brought the team into the red zone. Malone is one of a number of candidates to fill in as depth of the Bengals' wide receiver corps. Even if he makes the team, his role in the regular season is likely to be inconsistent, especially when A.J. Green (ankle) is able to return to the field.

  • Bengals' Josh Malone: Clawing to make team

Malone was the Bengals' best receiver in Monday's practice, Geoff Hobson of the team's official site reports. Malone entered training camp on the roster bubble, but A.J. Green's ankle injury probably gives him a little bit of security. He's battling with Cody Core and Alex Erickson for reps, and even the potential to start the first couple of games. It's most likely that he'll begin the season third or fourth on the depth chart until Green returns.
