  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Headed to New England

The Patriots are slated to sign Gibson, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. With Ezekiel Elliott set to become a free agent, the pending addition of Gibson -- whose deal is for three years -- gives the Patriots a versatile back to pair with lead rusher Rhamondre Stevenson. In 16 regular-season games with Washington in 2023, Gibson recorded 65 carries for 265 yards and a touchdown, while adding 48 catches for 389 yards and two receiving scores on 59 targets. In his first campaign with New England, look for Gibson to spell Stevenson on early downs, with change-of-pace/pass-catching duties also on tap. In that scenario, Gibson should have an opportunity to earn enough touches to merit lineup consideration in PPR formats in 2024.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Posts career lows in contract year

Gibson finished 2023 with 65 carries for 265 yards and a touchdown and 48 catches for 389 yards and two touchdowns on 59 targets. The 2020 third-round pick added one target, two catches and 46 receiving yards to his 2022 career highs in those categories and also averaged a new personal best of 8.1 yards per catch, but it didn't work out for fantasy with his rushing numbers falling off a cliff. After averaging 214 carries for 916 yards and nine TDs over his first two seasons, Gibson dropped to 149-546-3 in 2022 before plummeting further in 2023. He didn't get many carries even when Brian Robinson missed time with a hamstring injury in December, instead sticking in the passing-down role while rookie Chris Rodriguez (ankle) took over as the lead runner for a few weeks. Gibson doesn't have the best instincts or vision as a ballcarrier, but it's possible another team could make better use of his rare combination of size and speed (he ran a 4.39 40 in 2020 at 228 pounds), with Jerick McKinnon's career arc perhaps being a best-case scenario. The 25-year-old Gibson will be a free agent in March if he doesn't re-sign with the Commanders before the start of the new league year.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Tallies six touches in Week 17

Gibson recorded four carries for 19 yards and gathered in two of four targets for 17 yards during Sunday's 27-10 loss to the 49ers. Gibson welcomed back Brian Robinson (hamstring) to the Commanders backfield for the first time since Week 13, but even with Chris Rodriguez (ankle) going on injured reserve Thursday, Gibson's workload didn't differentiate from what he's accustomed to this season. His touch count landed in the middle of his typical range of 4-to-14, and Gibson again was easily out-touched by Robinson, 13-6. As such, Gibson likely will have a similar role Week 18 against the Cowboys.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Sleepers (Start/Sit)

Gibson might be the last man standing in the Washington backfield in Week 17 against San Francisco with Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) and Chris Rodriguez Jr. (foot) both banged up. If either plays then I'll likely remove Gibson from this list, but he should get 15-plus touches and have the chance for a quality outing against the 49ers, who have allowed three running backs in the past two games to score at least 14 PPR points with James Conner, Emari Demercado and Gus Edwards. San Francisco is also tied for fifth in most receptions allowed to running backs this year with 83, and Gibson has at least four catches in five of his past seven games.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Scores first rushing TD of 2023

Gibson carried the ball nine times for 30 yards and a touchdown and caught one of two targets for two yards in Sunday's 30-28 loss to the Jets. The fourth-year back scored his first rushing TD of the season late in the fourth quarter to give the Commanders their first lead of the game at 28-27, but the Jets responded with a game-winning field goal in the final seconds. While it was a productive outing for Gibson, he was overshadowed by rookie Chris Rodriguez, who scored twice on 10 carries while also gaining nearly double the rushing yards. The duo split the backfield workload for a second straight game with Brian Robinson (hamstring) sidelined, but if Robinson is unable to get back in the lineup for a Week 17 contest against the 49ers, Gibson could find himself taking a back seat to Rodriguez.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: RBs to Sit

With Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) out in Week 15 at the Rams, Gibson did not see a spike in playing time or touches, which was frustrating. He only had four carries for 15 yards and five catches for 20 yards on five targets, and Chris Rodriguez Jr. led the team in carries with 10. Robinson is still banged up heading into Week 16 at the Jets, so don't count on Gibson seeing an increased role. He could still be a flex option in PPR -- he has five games with at least four catches in his past six outings -- but don't make the mistake to overvalue him again if Robinson can't play.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Role doesn't increase

Gibson took four carries for 15 yards and caught each of his five targets for 20 yards in a 28-20 loss to the Rams on Sunday. He surprisingly didn't get more playing time in the absence of Brian Robinson (hamstring), with Gibson's 45 percent snap share lining up with his season-long rate of 46 percent. The Commanders instead used Chris Rodriguez (10 carries for 35 yards) as their lead runner and also gave Jonathan Williams some playing time (13 snaps, 22 percent), though Williams eventually left due to a concussion. Gibson might have more appeal in Week 16 against the Jets if both Robinson and Williams are inactive, but even that scenario isn't a guarantee of anything after his disappointing Week 15 results.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Set for larger role

Gibson and Chris Rodriguez will lead Washington's backfield Sunday against the Rams with Brian Robinson (hamstring) ruled out, Zach Selby of the team's official site reports. Gibson figures to play more than usual, though it's hard to pinpoint the extent of his role expansion given that Rodriguez also could get a bunch of the carries that normally go to Robinson. A look back at Week 13 isn't especially helpful, considering the Commanders had just 21 snaps in the second half of their blowout loss to Miami after losing Robinson to the hamstring injury shortly before halftime. Gibson did get 12 of the first 17 snaps in that second half before Rodriguez closed out the game with carries on each of Washington's final four plays. This might be a multi-game situation given that Robinson wasn't able to practice at all coming out of a Week 14 bye.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Sleeper RBs

Brian Robinson Jr. (hamstring) is out for Week 15 at the Rams, meaning Gibson will start, and he should be considered a No. 2 running back in all leagues given his expected workload. He had 14 total touches against the Dolphins in Week 13 when Robinson got hurt, and I would expect Gibson to get close to 20 total touches, even if he might share with Chris Rodriguez Jr. (another sleeper in deeper leagues). Gibson has scored at least 11.2 PPR points in three of his past four games, and he has at least four catches in four of his past five outings, with 25 targets over that span.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Elevated role after Robinson's exit

Gibson rushed 10 times for 35 yards and brought in four of five targets for 37 yards in the Commanders' 45-15 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday. He also fumbled once but recovered. Gibson saw expanded opportunity with Brian Robinson exiting the game with a hamstring injury, a development that led to the former's highest carry count of the season. Gibson also retained his usual pass-catching role in the blowout loss, and if the upcoming Week 14 bye doesn't afford Robinson enough recovery time, Gibson could serve as the lead back in a Week 15 road matchup against the Rams.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Sleeper RBs

I'm expecting the Commanders to be chasing points this week against the Dolphins, and that should mean more of Gibson and less of Brian Robinson Jr. That's what happened in Week 12 at Dallas when Gibson had more playing time than Robinson. While Gibson didn't have a big game against the Cowboys with six carries for 21 yards, along with three catches for 16 yards on four targets, he had at least five catches in three games in a row prior to missing Week 11 against the Giants with a toe injury. In PPR, Gibson can be a flex in Week 13, and Miami just allowed Breece Hall to catch seven passes for 24 yards on nine targets in Week 12.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Week 13 Waiver Priority List

Gibson didn't have a big game in Week 12 at Dallas with six carries for 21 yards, along with three catches for 16 yards on four targets, but he played more snaps (46 percent) than Brian Robinson Jr. (45 percent) in that outing. Any time the Commanders are likely going to be chasing points then Gibson has the chance for increased playing time, and Washington hosts Miami in Week 13. That could lead to more work for Gibson given his role in the passing game, and he had at least five catches in three games in a row prior to missing Week 11 against the Giants with a toe injury. In PPR, Gibson can be a flex in Week 13, and he's worth adding for 5-10 percent of your FAB.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Active in Week 12

Gibson (toe) is listed as active Thursday in Dallas. Gibson didn't practice at all last week before being listed as doubtful and eventually inactive for this past Sunday's game against the Giants. After receiving limited listings on all three Week 12 injury reports, he was deemed questionable for Thursday's game, and the activity was enough for him to be available. Gibson likely will regain his role as the pass-catching complement to the Commanders' No. 1 RB Brian Robinson, though there's a chance rookie sixth-rounder Chris Rodriguez remains in the backfield mix. In 10 appearances this season, Gibson has averaged six touches for 40.6 yards from scrimmage per game and scored two receiving TDs.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Likely game-time decision

Gibson (toe) is listed as questionable for Thursday's matchup with Dallas and may be a game-time decision, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Gibson didn't practice last week and missed Sunday's loss to the Giants, which had a hand in Brian Robinson taking 24 touches for 131 yards on a career-high 78 percent of snaps. Chris Rodriguez had a role off the bench and gained 48 yards on seven touches, but his final carry was a lost fumble in the second half. Gibson's potential return Thursday might push Rodriguez back out of the picture and likely would cost Robinson some work on passing down, though at this stage, Gibson has a real chance of sitting out a second game in a row. Since Gibson never managed anything more than limited practice participation this week, the Commanders may not decide on his status until releasing their inactive list 90 minutes before Thursday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Stays limited Tuesday

Gibson (toe) was listed as limited on Tuesday's injury report. Gibson didn't practice at all last week before being inactive for this past Sunday's game against the Giants. Considering he was upgraded to limited at Tuesday's session, he may have a chance to return from his one-game absence Thursday at Dallas and rejoin Brian Robinson in the Washington backfield. If Gibson remains out, rookie Chris Rodriguez could see an increased workload again.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Gauged as limited participant

The Commanders list Gibson (toe) as a limited participant on Monday's estimated practice report. Following Sunday's 31-19 loss to the Giants, the Commanders aren't holding a practice Monday, but Gibson would have been able to take the field in a limited capacity if the team had held a workout. The activity represents a step forward for Gibson, who wasn't able to practice in any fashion last week before being ruled out ahead of Sunday's contest. Though the Commanders are facing a quick turnaround for Week 12 with a Thanksgiving Day game in Dallas, Gibson looks as though he'll have a chance at being available.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Inactive for Week 11

Gibson (toe) is inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Giants. Gibson didn't practice at all during Week 11 prep and was listed as doubtful, so this doesn't come as a surprise. In his absence, Brian Robinson should handle a larger role than usual, while Chris Rodriguez will likely step up as the primary backup. Derrick Gore was also elevated from the practice squad Saturday and will be available to give Robinson and Rodriguez a break. Following Sunday's contest, Washington will have a quick turnaround to get ready for a Week 12 divisional matchup in Dallas on Thanksgiving Day.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Doubtful for Sunday

Gibson (toe) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Giants. It'll be a major surprise if Gibson is declared active ahead of the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff after missing every practice this week. He'd come on strong the past two games without any role change in terms of playing time, and his likely absence this Sunday could lead to starter Brian Robinson handling a larger snap share than usual. Coach Ron Rivera said Friday that Chris Rodriguez will step in as the No. 2 RB, with Derrick Gore likely being elevated from the practice squad, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Not practicing Friday

Gibson (toe) isn't practicing Friday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports. A third consecutive missed practice suggests Gibson is unlikely to play in Sunday's game against the Giants. If he ends up inactive, the Commanders could give more work to starter Brian Robinson -- especially on passing downs -- and likely would install third-stringer Chris Rodriguez in some kind of role.

  • Commanders' Antonio Gibson: Still not practicing

Gibson (toe) wasn't spotted at Thursday's practice, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Gibson missed Wednesday's session as well, making the running back's activity during Friday's practice worth monitoring when it comes to discerning his availability for Sunday's contest against the Giants. If Gibson ends up limited or out this weekend, Chris Rodriguez would be in line to see added snaps behind lead back Brian Robinson.
