Cannata was traded from the Capitals to the Avalanche on Wednesday in exchange for defenseman Cody Corbett.
Washington acquired goaltending prospect Pheonix Copley earlier in the week, so the team likely felt the need to get some value out of Cannata before the trade deadline. Despite a solid 11-5-1 record, Cannata's numbers have been far from outstanding this year -- he shows an .876 save percentage and a 3.22 GAA through 22 total appearances. Even so, the 27-year-old will have a better chance to excel in the Colorado system, as his new franchise currently lacks a clear goaltender of the future.
