Francouz is expected to be sidelined for 3-4 weeks with a lower-body injury, NHL.com's Rick Sadowski reports. The 31-year-old netminder has also been placed on injured reserve.

This has to be devastating news for Francouz, who missed the entirety of the 2020-21 campaign with a lower-body injury only to suffer another long-term lower-body issue just one week prior to the Avalanche's 2021-22 regular-season opener. With Francouz on the shelf, Colorado will likely lean on Darcy Kuemper while giving Jonas Johansson the occasional start in back-to-back situations for the first few weeks of the upcoming campaign.
