Avalanche's Sergei Boikov: Inks entry-level contract with Avs

Boikov signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Avalanche on Friday.

Boikov was Colorado's sixth-round (161st overall) selection in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. His playing career started with the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the QMJHL in 2013. The 20-year-old is an intriguing defenseman, considering that he improved his goal and assist totals in each subsequent year of junior hockey. He also appeared in four games with AHL San Antonio before taking home a silver medal with Russia in the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship. Given his late draft selection, we wouldn't expect Boikov to garner playing time in the NHL for at least a couple of seasons, though he's certainly on the right track with the entry-level deal in hand.
