Montreal acquired Newhook from Colorado on Tuesday in exchange for two draft picks and defenseman Gianni Fairbrother.
Newhook, who is pending restricted free agent, recorded 14 goals and 30 points in 82 games with the Avalanche last season. He will probably occupy a bottom-six forward spot with the Canadiens in 2023-24.
