Canadiens' Tomas Plekanec: Exposed by Habs

Plekanec is a candidate to be selected by the Golden Knights in the expansion draft after the Habs left him exposed Saturday, The New York Times reports.

One of the most notable players left unprotected, Plekanec saw a steep decline in offensive production this past season. He went from 54 points in the prior year, all the way down to 28 combined goals and assists in his 13th go-around with Montreal. What was the reason for the free-fall, you ask? Some of it can be attributed to his shuffling all around the lineup, but Plekanec also started just 35.6 percent of his 5-on-5 shifts in the offensive zone, making it difficult for him to get scoring opportunities. He's an alternate captain for the Canadiens, but the club would probably love to shed his $6 million cap hit.
