Boeser's chances of making the Canucks out of training camp have taken a serious hit with Friday's acquisition of Thomas Vanek, the Vancouver Courier reports.

Boeser led the University of North Dakota to the NCAA Division I title for the 2016-17 season, and this past March, Vancouver granted its 2015 first-round (23rd overall) draft selection a three-year, entry-level contract. He dazzled offensively in a nine-game NHL stint, generating four goals on just 25 shots to complement an assist, but the Canucks evidently feel like he'd be better off polishing his game in the minors with AHL Utica. While there still seems to be at least a fighting chance that Boeser cracks the Opening Night roster, it would be wise to limit interest in the prospect to keeper leagues for the time being.
