Holtby claimed his first career William M. Jennings Trophy after backstopping the Capitals to a league-best 2.16 goals against per game.

Holtby is the sole winner of the Jennings this season even though the award is often shared by the team's goaltending tandem because backup Philipp Grubauer fell one game shy of the 25 games required to qualify. Holtby is the first Capital to win the award since 1984, when A.l. Jensen and Pat Riggin shared it, and he finished the season with career bests in GAA (2.07) and save percentage (.925) while tying a career high with nine shutouts. The Caps' blue line, which was among the best and deepest this past season, is expected to undergo significant changes, but it should not impact Holtby's fantasy value very much, as he remains an elite No. 1 starter. Barry Trotz's teams are known to be structured and responsible on defense, which puts Holtby and the Caps in good position to make another run at the Presidents' Trophy next season.
