Devils' Dawson Mercer: Scores shortie in loss

Mercer scored a shorthanded goal on four shots in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Red Wings.

Mercer got the Devils within two goals late in the second period, but a comeback push never materialized. This was the first shorthanded point in the 20-year-old's young career. He's up to eight goals, eight assists, 57 shots and a plus-2 rating in 29 appearances, and he's shown himself to be capable of playing in a top-six role when the Devils are thin at forward.
