Patrick centered Jordan Weal and Wayne Simmonds (a presumed top-six line) during the team's opening training camp practice Friday, Sam Carchidi of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Patrick was the NHL's No. 2 overall draft selection by the Flyers in June and coach Dave Hakstol heaped some praise on the rookie following the session, saying, "I thought they both looked like they belonged today." The Flyers' lines should be better sorted out as camp progresses, but Patrick possesses the pedigree of a potential instant impact player after accumulating 46 points over 33 games in junior hockey last season.
