Salo may be sent back to the AHL before the Islanders are able to resume their season, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
There has been no word yet from the NHL if the Islanders will play Thursday versus the Sharks. There is also no word from the Islanders as to if any of their current defensemen in the Covid-19 protocols will return for that game. As of Monday, Adam Pelech, Andy Greene, and Zdeno Chara are each in the protocol. Coach Barry Trotz has not stated how many of that trio would have to return for the team to return Salo to the AHL. Salo has yet to register a point and is a minus-4 in four games with the Islanders. One thing we can reasonably assume is that Salo will be playing somewhere. The Islanders are unlikely to keep one of the top prospects on the bench. They will want him playing somewhere.
