Sherwood will become a free agent after the Blue Jackets decided not to issue him a qualifying offer Monday, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.

Over the course of three seasons with Columbus, Sherwood was in action for just 11 games in which he garnered one assist, 15 shots and 42 hits. At this point, the 24-year-old natural center may have to settle for an AHL-only contract this season in order to try convincing another NHL club to take a chance on him.
